Burgoyne Diller: Pioneer of Abstraction is the first New York exhibition of Burgone Diller's art since his 1990 retrospective at the Whitney Museum of Amerian Art. Burgoyne Diller: Pioneer of Abstraction will include important paintings, drawings and constructions from 1935 through 1963 and will offer an understanding of the artists development from early cubist-inspired compositions to his better-known geometric abstractions.
Burgoyne Diller, among the most significant American abstract artists of the twentieth century, is regarded as a leader of the avant-garde in the 1930s and a forefather of the 1960s Minimalist movement. As head of the New York WPA/FAP Mural Division, member of the American Abstract Artists group and educator at Brooklyn College, Diller influenced artists, students and the public with his
