Michael Rosenfeld Gallery is pleased to announce Martha Madigan: Seeds of Light from the Human Nature Series. This exhibition will focus on twenty black and white photograms from her new series entitled Seeds of Light. In this haunting series, Madigan has focused her attention on the child. By juxtaposing elements founds in nature (i.e. leaves, pine cones, stones) with agile bodies of young children on sheets of light sensitive paper measuring 24” x 20”, Madigan explores the complexities of metamorphosis, evolution and death.

For over twenty years, Madigan has been working with photograms that refer to, record, and/or transform aspects of nature and the human figure. Madigan has explored a variety of photographic light sensitive materials from the earliest cyanotype process to the latest technology in digital color photography. In her work, Madigan seeks to find “the essential truth in the teachings of nature; death and life as a continuum; the temporary nature of the body; and the struggle between human desire and spiritual evolution.”
